“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all”

When was the last time (if ever) you heard someone claiming this promise for their life? It seems to me as though many Christians would like to live a life that is free of afflictions, hoping that fewer afflictions will equal more joy. But in wanting and pursuing a life as such, they will actually be missing out on a great cause for joy… namely, afflictions.
